Hiring Out a Container
Record a container deployment to a customer site, set the drop date, and update the status to On Site.
1. Select a container→
2. Open hire-out action→
3. Enter site address and drop date→
4. Link to customer (optional)→
5. Save — status changes to On Site
1. What hiring out does
Hiring out a container records its deployment to a specific site. The container status is set to On Site, the current address and postcode are updated to the site address, the dropped date is recorded, and optionally the container is linked to a customer record. This creates a complete audit trail of where each container has been.
2. Hire-out fields
When you hire out a container, you need to provide the following details.
Hire Out Container
Deploy a container to a customer site
15 Commercial Road, Bristol
This replaces the container's stored address in the list.
BS1 1AA
Auto-uppercased on save.
2026-03-15
Sets the hire start date used for billing duration calculations.
Acme Builders Ltd▾
Links the hire to a client record so it appears in their transfer history.
On Site▾
Automatically set to On Site when hiring out.
3. After hire-out
Once saved, the container list shows the container under the On Site tab with the new address and drop date. The container's history log records the hire event. To collect the container, see the Returns article.
Link to a customer for billing
Linking the hire-out to a customer record makes it easy to raise an invoice later — you can filter your On Site containers by customer and see exactly how many days each has been deployed.
Hire-out is just a status update
Hiring out a container is equivalent to editing the container and setting the status to On Site with a new address and drop date. Use the dedicated hire-out form to ensure all fields are updated consistently in one action.
Common Mistakes
• Not recording the Dropped Date when deploying a container — without this date, hire duration calculations from the exported CSV will be missing the start date.
• Forgetting to update the address — if you change the status to On Site but leave the address as the previous location, the container list will show incorrect location data.
