Container Detail

View and edit all details for a single container, update its status, and review its movement history.

Accessing the container detail

Click any container in the Containers list to open it. In the main containers list view, clicking a row opens the edit form inline on the same page. For containers that have a dedicated detail page (via /app/containers/[id]/), you will see the full edit form along with the container movement history.

Editing container information

All the fields set when the container was created are editable: reference, type, size, status, address, postcode, dropped date, collected date, and notes. The form is the same as the Add Container form but with "Update Container" as the save button label.

Status management

The Status field is the primary way to track where a container is in its lifecycle. Update the status whenever the container moves or its availability changes.

Deleting a container

The Delete button is available on the edit form when editing an existing container. Clicking it shows a confirmation dialog: "Delete this container? This cannot be undone." Confirming permanently removes the container record. This action cannot be reversed.

Deletion is permanent
Deleting a container removes all its records including location history. If a container is retired or written off, consider setting its status to Maintenance and adding a note rather than deleting it, to preserve the history.
Update address when moving containers
When a container is collected and redeployed to a new site, update both the address and the Dropped Date at the same time. This keeps the location history accurate and helps with hire billing.
Postcode is auto-uppercased
When you save the form, the postcode is automatically converted to uppercase. You do not need to capitalise it manually.
Common Mistakes
Clicking Delete when you meant to click Cancel — the forms are close together, especially on mobile. Read the confirmation dialog carefully before confirming.
Forgetting to update the Collected Date when a container is brought back to yard — without this date the container will still appear to be deployed in the history.
