Creating Your First Note
Walk through the five-section PreviewEditor to build a legally valid Waste Transfer Note.
1. Opening the editor
From the Dashboard, click "One-Off Note" to open a blank note in the PreviewEditor. You can also use the sidebar: Notes → One-Off Notes → New Note. The editor is split into two panes: the left shows the five clickable section cards, and the right shows the Completion Sidebar with a checklist and action buttons.
2. Step 1 — Choose a transfer type
At the top of the note editor, a TransferFlowSelector lets you choose between two transfer types. "Collection (Stored)" means the waste is being collected by a carrier — your company details auto-fill into Section C (Transferee). "Deposit (Direct)" means you are depositing waste at a transfer station — your company details auto-fill into Section B (Transferor). Section D is hidden for stored-waste transfers.
3. Step 2 — Fill in each section
Click any section card to open its dialog. A green tick on the card means that section is complete. Section A covers waste description, EWC codes, containment type, and quantity. Section B is the Transferor (current holder). Section C is the Transferee (person collecting or destination site). Section D covers the transfer address, date, time, and optional broker details. The Signatures section collects in-person or email-requested signatures from both parties.
4. Step 3 — Auto-save
QWTN auto-saves your work every few seconds. A cloud icon in the top bar shows the save status: a green check-circle means saved, a spinning icon means saving, and a red cloud-slash means a save error. You can also click "Draft" to save manually and close the editor.
5. Step 4 — Complete the note
Once all sections are complete, the "Complete" button turns green. Click it and confirm in the dialog to lock the note as a legal record. Completed notes cannot be edited. You will be redirected to the note detail page where you can print it or request signatures.
6. Other actions
The toolbar also offers: Print (opens the browser print dialog with a correctly formatted WTN), Save as Template (saves the note structure for reuse), and Delete (removes the draft permanently after a confirmation prompt).
