How to use EWC codes

Every waste transfer note in the UK must include at least one EWC code to classify the waste being moved. Here is how to find the right one.

01

Search for your waste type

Type a description like "concrete", "plasterboard", or "food waste" into the search bar above. You can also search by 6-digit code if you know it.

02

Find the right 6-digit code

Each waste type has a specific 6-digit EWC code. Codes ending with * are hazardous and have stricter disposal requirements. Choose the code that best matches your waste.

03

Add it to your waste transfer note

Click "Use in WTN" to pre-fill a free waste transfer note with your selected code. Every WTN must include at least one EWC code to be legally compliant.
