Yes. Old tiles, felt, timber battens, lead flashing, and any other waste removed from a roofing job is controlled waste. A waste transfer note is required for every load you take away or hand to a carrier.

What EWC code should I use for old roof tiles?

17 01 03 covers tiles and ceramics. If the tiles are mixed with other materials (concrete, bricks), use 17 01 07. For bituminous roofing felt, use 17 03 02.

What if I find asbestos cement roof sheets?

Asbestos cement sheets are hazardous waste (EWC 17 06 05*) and require a consignment note, not a standard WTN. You must use a licensed asbestos removal contractor. Never handle or transport asbestos without proper training and licensing.
